All the Heads Up Decoys work the same.
Care, Tips, and Tactics Do not for any reason remove the support tubing from the decoy. Call or email us first. Our contact info is listed under the Contact Tab. Do not force the support frame beyond the bending radius of 3.75" or the frame will kink or bend. (I beat my decoys to death and I have yet to damage the tubing...nonetheless be aware that the frame can kink.) If you feel it necessary to wash your decoy, use sports wash or other type of scent free detergent. Hand wash the cloth and let air dry. We do not recommend putting ANY deer or elk scent attractant on your decoy. The scent will be there for LIFE. Put the scent around the objects near the decoy, but again, not on the decoy itself. THIS DECOY IS HIGHLY EFFECTIVE. Do not give the animal too much credit. There are elements about this decoy that I consider trade secrets which make the fact it's only a partial body irrelavant. If animals were that smart, they would look both ways before they crossed the highway...:-) For packing or transporting the decoy in non hunting situations, simply follow the reverse order as the assembly listed above. Many of the features of the decoy's head (ears, nose, and/or horns) turn on the support frame and can conform, to some degree, to your pack contents. Strap it externally or place it inside your pack. Place the handle in your pack. I personally always have the decoy assembled during hunting hours. This is an "on demand" decoy. When used correctly should never bother you or be cumbersome to take to the field. If the decoy is not in my hand, I will attach it to a pack strap with a carabiner. Make sure your carabiner is hooked around the fitting that is secured to the support frame. In 2008 the objective was to hide behind something and display the decoy and animate it, with the experiences that I have had personally and from the feedback that I have been getting...practically anything is possible with these decoys. I always recommend starting with conventional set ups and as the situation progresses, shift to aggressive tactics if the conventional does not provide the desired reponse. A 2 person set up is always best, but is not necessary...don't be afraid to use it yourself in a handheld "flash" type technique or utilize the Heads Up Decoy Clamp secure it to a solid object or place it in a Heads Up Decoy bow mount (all accessories can be found under the Accessories Tab). Our "Windlock" system is designed to keep the decoy operational during breezy...and even windy hunting situations. No silhouetted decoy functions flawlessly in windy situations, but with our smaller profile and the handle stabilization "Windlock" system, you can use it effectively without getting too much uncontrollable movements and gyrations. The ears of the decoy rotate on the main support frame, turn them to create added postures and a psuedo 3D effect. MAKE SURE THE ANIMAL SEES THE DECOY. That sounds obvious, but make sure the decoy is visible from a distance given the cover...the animal will convince themselves well before bow range that it's real and at that point there is little you can do to keep them from coming in to investigate! Don't be afraid to try anything. I have shot animals at point blank range and had absolutely no cover...check out our videos on youtube or on this website. All DIY fair chase... This is a decoy with no limits! Take it every time you go. |
