Heads Up Decoy

The development of the Heads Up Decoy by Smoky Hill Hunting Products was based off of many years of observations in the field and the desire to design a unique, practical, effective, and highly compact decoy. My name is Garrett Roe. I am the founder of Smoky Hill Hunting Products and the designer of the Heads Up Decoy.

Particularly on the ground, while hunting or scouting, how many times have you spotted only pieces of the animal through cover for which those animals inhabit? My guess is, probably often. That cover could be tall grass, agricultural crops, dark heavy timber, or woody thickets. Just as hunters, animals will catch the same glimpses of animals moving through their habitat as we do, except they are better at it. This is the bases of the idea behind the Heads Up Decoy.

The Heads Up Decoy is a uniquely designed silhouette decoy which implements a special printing process of a big game animal image to cloth comprised of the head, neck, and front shoulder. You will not find a more detailed image of an animal printed on cloth than the Heads Up Decoy. I designed this decoy to be so compact and so light weight and so realistic that there would be no excuse to leave it in the truck or at base camp. The entire decoy and handle weighs merely ounces. The nose and ears of the Heads Up Decoy have rigid supporting components that will not warp or curl. The internal supporting frame of the Heads Up Decoy supports the decoy in a natural and realistic posture.

Unless you are hunting over a sack of corn, seldom will you be able to truly dictate or predict the movement of big game. The Heads Up Decoy will allow you to be mobile, stay mobile, and provide much needed visual verification and movement when calling or stalking deer, elk, or antelope.

I have archery hunted for over 20 years. I would never consider myself an expert, nor will I try to convince you that I am, but I have adopted a few philosophies over the years which have allowed me to be more successful. One of those philosophies I will share here.

I have always found that when calling big game animals, whether deer or elk, one needs as many affects as possible. I believe that most of us know that when trying to lure in a big buck or a bull elk, mimicking their call alone will not always work. Implementing special effects will always enhance the use of the game call; rattling antlers, simulating a buck or bull rubbing, simulating the making of a scrap, and the visual verification that there is an animal making that noise to seal the deal. However, visual verification may still not be enough. Movement is the last, and very key, ingredient to close that gap from just out of range, to close range. Due to the unique design of the Heads Up Decoy, the archery hunter can flash and animate the decoy completing the circle of calling and luring the animal within range.

I am not going to bore you with the same old clichés, “Made by hunters, for hunters.” Folks, I am a realist by nature. This is my interpretation of a big game decoy that is versatile and realistic. The Heads Up Decoy is designed for you to take every time you go whether you use the decoy or not. The Heads Up Decoy will not weigh you down or tie you down to any one location, nor will you be limited by predetermine hunting desitinatons. If you are looking for a decoy that can be used in almost any conceivable fashion, the Heads Up Decoy is your decoy. You won't find anyone affiliated with the Heads Up Decoy running our competition through the mud to sell the Heads Up Decoy. I believe there is room for all of us in the market and I certainly believe that the Heads Up Decoy belongs.

Whether I am pursuing whitetails, mule deer, elk, or antelope, there will be a Heads Up Decoy in my pack because I honestly believe that this decoy could be the difference between luring an animal into range or another “almost got him” story.
